{"id":1150,"date":"2017-10-17T16:24:15","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T20:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/159.203.57.202\/sjeng\/?p=1150"},"modified":"2017-10-18T09:57:33","modified_gmt":"2017-10-18T13:57:33","slug":"summary-of-the-october-2017-board-of-directors-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sjccc.ca\/sjeng\/?p=1150","title":{"rendered":"Summary of the October 2017 Board of Directors Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held on 03 October 2017.\u00a0 In addition, a Missioning and Strategic Planning Session of the Board was held 21\u00a0September 2017 to which members of the Senior Team were invited.\u00a0\u00a0At the Strategic Planning Session, the Centre\u2019s present <em>Mission <\/em>and <em>Values <\/em>were reaffirmed.\u00a0 The <em>Vision <\/em>was changed to:\u00a0 \u201cInnovative leadership striving for excellence in quality care committed to the dignity and well-being of the community we serve.\u201d\u00a0 The Centre\u2019s three-year plan was also discussed (see \u201cSub-acute Capacity Planning\u201d below).<\/p>\n<p><u>CORRESPONDENCE<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>Thank You Card from Mr. Paul Fitzpatrick<\/u> \u2013 In this card, Mr. Fitzpatrick (a former Board Member) thanks the Board for the floral arrangement sent at the time of his father, Michael\u2019s, death.<\/p>\n<p><u>CORPORATE LIAISON\u2019S REPORT<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>Film:\u00a0 <em>The Last Breath at the Heart of the H<\/em><\/u><em><u>\u00f4t<\/u><\/em><em><u>el-Dieu de Montr<\/u><\/em><em><u>\u00e9<\/u><\/em><em><u>al<\/u><\/em> \u2013 This film about the closing of Hotel Dieu Hospital in Montreal will screen twice in Kingston on 23\u00a0October 2017.<\/p>\n<p><u>Mother House in Montreal<\/u> \u2013 Renovations have started.\u00a0 The Chapel is still being used.\u00a0<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><u>Tea with the Sisters<\/u> \u2013 Sister Cuddihy hopes to attend Mission Week Tea with the Sisters at our Centre on November 2<sup>nd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><u>ADMINISTRATION REPORT<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Lafrance-Allaire\u2019s report included <em>Hospital Service Accountability Agreement (H-SAA)<\/em> <em>Attestation<\/em> (re Parking), <em>Long-Term Care Service Accountability Agreement (L-SAA)<\/em> <em>Amendment re Enhancement of Funding for Specialized Staffing Initiatives focussed on Behavioural supports in Long-Term Care Homes<\/em>, Critical Incident Inspections (Update), Good News Item (Ms.\u00a0Joan Harker\u2019s Rehab Journey), and Census Data.\u00a0 Also discussed:<\/p>\n<p><u>Sub-acute Capacity Planning<\/u> \u2013 The Leadership Team is focussed on our three-year plan starting with the feasibility study on physical capacity.\u00a0 As a provider of Sub-acute Care in Cornwall, we are committed to meeting the current and future needs of the increasing aged population while remembering the vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p><u>ADMINISTRATION REPORT<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>Privacy Update <\/u>\u2013 For this portion of the meeting, Mr. Soares explained changes to <em>Bill 119 \u2013 The Personal Health Information Protection Act, <\/em>as well as the Connecting Ontario project which will enable province-wide information sharing by building and linking systems so that clinicians can access patients\u2019 information from their office, community clinic or hospital setting at any time.\u00a0 Staff training will occur in-house soon.\u00a0 Information will be provided to the residents\/patients\/families upon admission.\u00a0 This project is a huge undertaking which will require many safeguards and much monitoring.\u00a0 Current information and results which will be readily available will be very beneficial for resident\/patient care, and will save time.<\/p>\n<p><u>Policy Review<\/u> \u2013 Several policies related to privacy including some new ones were circulated prior to the meeting.\u00a0 These were approved by the Board of Directors:<\/p>\n<p>-Corporate Policy #3-a-66 re <em>Privacy Breach Management;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Corporate Policy #3-a-67 re <em>Privacy Logging and Auditing; <\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Corporate Policy #3-a-68 re <em>Privacy and Security Training;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Corporate Policy #3-a-69 re <em>Privacy Inquiries and Complaints;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211;<\/em>Corporate Policy #3-a-70 re <em>Privacy Policy;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Corporate Policy #3-a-71 re <em>Lock Box Policy; and<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Corporate Policy #3-a-75 re <em>Resident\/Patient Records:\u00a0 Access to and Release of.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><u>ETHICS AND MISSION COMMITTEE<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>Research Policy<\/u> \u2013 The Board of Directors approved Corporate Policy #3a-21 re <em>Research Proposals<\/em>, as amended.<\/p>\n<p><u>COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING, FINANCE AND PERSONNEL RELATIONS COMMITTEE (CPFPRC<\/u>)<\/p>\n<p><u>Review of Insurance Renewal<\/u> \u2013 Cyber insurance coverage was discussed and will be investigated by Management.\u00a0 Findings will be reviewed at the next CPFPRC Committee meeting.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Financial Statements<\/u><\/em> \u2013 Ms. Dor\u00e9 reviewed the highlights of the statements and responded to questions.\u00a0 The Board of Directors approved the <em>Financial Statements for the Period Ending 31 August 2017<\/em> as presented.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Management Fiduciary Statement<\/u><\/em> \u2013 The Board of Directors approved the <em>Management Fiduciary Statement for August 2017.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><u>PROFESSIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE (PAC)<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>Policy Review<\/u> \u2013 Two policies were approved by the Board of Directors, as recommended by the PAC:<\/p>\n<p>-Corporate Policy #3-a-20 re <em>Disagreement with a Physician\u2019s\/Nurse Practitioner\u2019s Orders;
