{"id":1531,"date":"2019-03-12T15:06:08","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T19:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sjccc.ca\/sjeng\/?p=1531"},"modified":"2019-03-12T15:16:24","modified_gmt":"2019-03-12T19:16:24","slug":"summary-of-the-march-2019-board-of-directors-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sjccc.ca\/sjeng\/?p=1531","title":{"rendered":"Summary of the March 2019 Board of Directors Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><u>REPORT <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>FROM<\/u><\/strong><strong><u> THE <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>BOARD<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held on 05 March 2019.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><u>CHAIRPERSON\u2019S REPORT<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><u>Catholic Health Association of Ontario (CHAO)<\/u> \u2013 Mr. Desnoyers and Mrs.\u00a0Lafrance-Allaire attended a meeting at the CHAO at which there was good discussion about the current healthcare changes in Ontario.\u00a0 (See also Administration Report of this newsletter.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><u>ADMINISTRATION REPORT<\/u><\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Mrs. Lafrance-Allaire\u2019s report included:\u00a0 :\u00a0 Hotel Dieu Outreach Programme (update on progress to date); Good News Items (Letter of Appreciation received from former patient of Slow-paced Rehabilitation Programme, and Certificate in Indigenous Cultural Safety Training Ontario Core ICS Health \u2013 completed by Mrs. Lafrance-Allaire); and Census Data.\u00a0 Also discussed:<\/p>\n<p><u>Health Minister Christine Elliott\u2019s Announcement<\/u> \u2013 On February 26, 2019, Minister\u00a0Elliott announced the formation of a new Agency, Ontario Health, \u201cto bring a consistency of approach\u2026with a common vision with a single point of oversight\u201d.\u00a0 She also announced the formation of Ontario Health Teams (30-50) throughout Ontario which will be made up of local healthcare providers that will be organized in a way that will enable them to work as a coordinated group.\u00a0 The Minister stated, \u201cThese teams will be built to guide patients and residents between providers and shepherd you and your families through transitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All health organizations will be dismantled and rolled into a new \u201cSuper Health Agency\u201d of Ontario Health Teams for most types of care.\u00a0 The Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) will remain until the <em>Hospital-Service Accountability Agreement (H-SAA)<\/em> and <em>Long-Term Care Home-Service Accountability Agreement (L-SAA)<\/em> are transferred to the new structure, approximately 2-5 years.\u00a0 There was no mention of governance.\u00a0 In this community we have good relationships and collaboration with community providers and especially with Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><u>QUALITY IMPROVEMENT \/ SAFETY COMMITTEE<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><u>Public Health Ontario\u2019s Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Programme<\/u> \u2013 This project continues and has resulted in reduced use of antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p><u>Falls<\/u> \u2013 These appear to be on the rise.\u00a0 However, these may be due to new admissions and will be monitored very closely.<\/p>\n<p><u>Medication Errors<\/u> \u2013 These will also be carefully monitored due to the recent initiation of the new medication electronic ordering system.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Risk Management Plan 2018-19<\/u><\/em> \u2013 Noted.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Employee Survey Results 2018<\/u><\/em> \u2013 Of 340 employees, 187 responded.\u00a0 Responses indicated that staff wanted to have access to communications via e-mail.\u00a0 Therefore, all staff members have been set up with an e-mail account.\u00a0 The results also indicated that staff members want Management to be more present on the floors.\u00a0 This change will be implemented.\u00a0 \u201cFeel Good Friday Stories\u201d have been introduced.\u00a0 The Worklife Pulse Committee has been busy organizing events for staff to enjoy and will bring back the Feast of St. Joseph which was popular at the Centre in the past.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><u>COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING, FINANCE AND PERSONNEL RELATIONS COMMITTEE<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><u>Financial Statements<\/u><\/em> \u2013 Ms. Lalonde reviewed the statements.\u00a0 Both operations will end the year with surpluses.\u00a0 The Board of Directors approved the <em>Financial Statements for the period ended 31 January 2019 <\/em>as presented.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Management Fiduciary Statement<\/u><\/em> \u2013 Ms. Lalonde indicated that the <em>French Language Services Act <\/em>has been added to this statement.\u00a0 The Board of Directors approved the <em>Management Fiduciary Statement for January 2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><u>AUXILIARY REPORT<\/u><\/strong><\/span> &#8212; Ms. Payette highlighted her report.\u00a0 Winner of the Genie Wish Draw on February 14<sup>th<\/sup> was the Food Services Department and they will be granted their wish for coloured dishware and tableware for Quinn House.\u00a0 A very generous and much appreciated donation of $20,000 will be made by the Auxiliary to the Centre for the purchase of equipment needed to enhance the life of the residents.\u00a0 The Auxiliary\u2019s Annual Meeting will be held on March 21<sup>st<\/sup> followed by an afternoon tea.\u00a0 Casino trips continue to be very successful.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Desnoyers thanked Mrs. Payette and Members of the Auxiliary for the generous donation resulting from their hard work.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><u>PROFESSIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><u>Physician Recruitment<\/u> \u2013 The advertisement has been placed in the February edition of the <em>Canadian Family Physician Journal.\u00a0 <\/em>This included some online exposure as well.\u00a0 Resident Physicians will be graduating in mid-June.\u00a0 Therefore, there may be some interest and response shortly.<\/p>\n<p><u>2019 Medical Staff Reapplications<\/u> \u2013 The Board of Directors approved the reappointment of Dr. S. Patel and Dr. M. Yitemben-Tchouatieu to the medical staff for 2019 for privileges as previously held, which were reviewed and recommended by the PAC.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><u>EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES<\/u><\/strong><\/span> \u2013 The Centre\u2019s <em>Education Calendar<\/em> for March 2019 was circulated to the Board of Directors for information.\u00a0 There will be a Governance Education Day on April 10<sup>th<\/sup> in Perth for all Board Members who have registered.\u00a0 The Ontario Hospital Association and Governance Centre educational opportunities were also circulated for information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The next regular Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Tuesday, 02 April 2019 at noon in the Boardroom.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>REPORT FROM THE BOARD The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held on 05 March 2019.
