REPORT <\/u><\/strong>FROM<\/u><\/strong> THE <\/u><\/strong>BOARD<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held on 15 May 2019.\u00a0 The Annual Meeting of the Board was held immediately prior to the regular meeting.<\/p>\n

SPECIAL PRESENTATION <\/u><\/strong>\u2013<\/u> RETIREMENT SISTER VALADE AND MS. ANN SURCH<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Mrs. Lafrance-Allaire thanked Sister Valade for her devotion, compassion, and inspiration to everyone to live within the Mission<\/em> and Values<\/em> of St. Joseph\u2019s Continuing Care Centre.\u00a0 Sister\u00a0Valade thanked the Board of Directors for the many rewarding years she has had being on the Board of St. Joseph\u2019s Continuing Care Centre.<\/p>\n

Ms. Surch, Coordinator of Administration Services, retired 21 May 2019 after 37 years with the Centre.\u00a0 Mrs. Gizanne Lafrance-Allaire thanked Ms. Surch for her dedication, hard work, and support.\u00a0 Mrs. Lafrance-Allaire presented Ms. Surch with a necklace with a tree of life pendant.\u00a0 Ms. Surch thanked the Board of Directors for the gift and the rewarding years she has had at St. Joseph\u2019s Continuing Care Centre.<\/p>\n

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Membership Response re Hotel Dieu Alliance Memorandum of Understanding <\/u>\u2013\u00a0 Approved by the Members of the Corporation.<\/p>\n

CORRESPONDENCE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Memorandum of Catholic Health International (CHI) re Appointment of Ms. Wilson to Board<\/u> \u2013 The Board noted the letter from CHI.<\/p>\n

Thank you Card from Mrs. Tammie Menard, former Community Engagement Officer<\/u> \u2013 The Board of Directors noted the card of appreciation for Mrs.\u00a0Menard\u2019s retirement gift.<\/p>\n

ADMINISTRATION REPORT<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 Mrs. Lafrance-Allaire\u2019s report included:\u00a0 Management Goals and Objectives 2019-20<\/em> (approved), Annual Report to the Sponsor 2019<\/em> (completed and submitted to CHI), and Good News Item (Two Quinn House staff members have attended a week-long course named Dementia Care Matters in Toronto.\u00a0 They were both energized with the possibilities of revolutionizing the way we deliver dementia care.)\u00a0 Also discussed:<\/p>\n

Ontario Health Team (OHT)<\/u> \u2013 Mrs. Lafrance-Allaire met with a group of community partners on 30 April 2019 at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre (SJCCC) in order to discuss the forming of an Ontario Health Team for the region.\u00a0 The OHT Compatibility, Collaboration and Commitment Self-assessment <\/em>tool was completed and submitted to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.<\/p>\n

The Board of Directors approved the report from Administration, including the Management Goals and Objectives for 2019-20.<\/p>\n

QUALILY IMPROVEMENT (QI) \/ SAFETY COMMITTEE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Balanced Scorecard 2018-19 (Q4)<\/em><\/u> \u2013 The Balanced Scorecard 2018-19<\/em> goals are well underway to being achieved.<\/p>\n

Quality Assurance Scorecard<\/u><\/em> \u2013 The 2019-20 scorecard format will be revamped and presented at the next meeting of the Quality Improvement \/ Safety Committee.<\/p>\n

Concerns and Complaints (Q4)<\/u><\/em> \u2013 <\/em>The Concerns and Complaints (Q4) <\/em>were reviewed by the Committee.<\/p>\n

Resident Survey Results 2018<\/u><\/em> \u2013 Questions surrounding care and staff were all positive.\u00a0 Next year, the survey will include more detailed questions relating to Spiritual Care.\u00a0 Ninety-eight percent of respondents stated they would choose SJCCC again if there were making the decision for Long-Term Care.<\/p>\n

Patient Survey Results 2018<\/u><\/em> \u2013 Patients ranked Palliative Care Services high and 100 percent stated they would recommend SJCCC\/Hotel Dieu to others.<\/p>\n

Residents\u2019 Bill of Rights<\/u><\/em> \u2013 The Residents Bill of Rights<\/em> was reviewed and no changes were made.\u00a0 The Residents\u2019 Bill of Rights<\/em> was approved by the QI\/Safety Committee as presented.<\/p>\n

ETHICS AND MISSION COMMITTEE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Strategic Planning \/ Mission Effectiveness Session<\/u> \u2013 This will be held on 12\u00a0September 2019 at the Nav Centre.<\/p>\n

Palliative Care Committee Update<\/u> \u2013 The \u201cPalliative Care:\u00a0 Communication at End-of-Life Training\u201d presented to 20 staff members was very successful.<\/p>\n

Guidelines for Medical-moral Consultations<\/u><\/em> \u2013 The Corporate Policy #3-a-22 re Guidelines for Medical-moral Consultations <\/em>was approved by the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n

Ethicist<\/u> \u2013 A reminder was given to the Board of Directors that there are many resources available such as Sister Joan Kalchbrenner from the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph.\u00a0 It was also mentioned that an ethicist from the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is available to speak about family, spirituality, and palliation of young patients.<\/p>\n

COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING, FINANCE AND PERSONNEL RELATIONS COMMITTEE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Management Fiduciary Statement<\/u><\/em> \u2013 The Board of Directors approved the Management Fiduciary Statement for March 2019.<\/em><\/p>\n

Statement of Administrative Responsibility<\/u><\/em> \u2013 Noted.\u00a0 This document will be sent to the Members of the Corporation for information.<\/p>\n

Audited Financial Statements<\/u><\/em> \u2013 The Audited Financial Statements <\/em>for the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph of Cornwall, Ontario:\u00a0 St. Joseph\u2019s Villa; Hotel Dieu Hospital;<\/em> and the Consolidated Statements for the Year Ended 31 March 2019 <\/em>were presented and will be recommended to the Members of the Corporation for approval.<\/p>\n

Audit Findings Report<\/u> \u2013\u00a0This document was approved by the Board of Directors and referred to the Members of the Corporation for information.<\/p>\n

AUXILIARY REPORT<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Summer Activity<\/u> \u2013 Although things will slow down for the summer, fundraising by the Auxiliary will continue.<\/p>\n

PROFESSIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Recruitment<\/u> \u2013 A physician may be interested in joining our Medical Staff.<\/p>\n

GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Board Member \/ Committee Member \/ Officers Appointment<\/u> \u2013 In preparation for the Annual Meeting, the Committee made recommendations regarding appointments and reappointment of Directors including Officers (Mr.\u00a0Paul\u00a0Desnoyers, Chairperson and Mr.\u00a0Mathieu Despatie, Vice-chairperson), and Ex-officio Members, as well as changes to some Board Committees.\u00a0 These recommendations were subsequently recommended at the Annual Meeting to the Members of the Corporation for approval.\u00a0 Annual reports from the Chairperson, Executive Director, and Medical Directors Dr.\u00a0Patel and Dr.\u00a0Foley were also presented, approved and forwarded to the Members of the Corporation.<\/p>\n

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES<\/u><\/strong> \u2013 The Centre\u2019s Education Calendar<\/em> for May 2019 and Governance educational opportunities were circulated to the Board of Directors for information.<\/p>\n
