{"id":917,"date":"2016-01-06T11:40:40","date_gmt":"2016-01-06T16:40:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/159.203.57.202\/sjeng\/?p=917"},"modified":"2016-01-06T11:40:40","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T16:40:40","slug":"summary-of-the-december-2015-board-of-directors-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sjccc.ca\/sjeng\/?p=917","title":{"rendered":"Summary of the December 2015 Board of Directors Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>REPORT FROM THE BOARD<br \/>\nThe regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held on 01 December 2015.<\/p>\n<p>EDUCATION SESSION<br \/>\nFinancial Statements \u2013 Mrs. Ruest provided a very informative overview of the financial statements including the components of the Statement of Financial Position and the Statement of Operations.<\/p>\n<p>CORRESPNDENCE<br \/>\nThank You Card from Frances Campeau (Dietary) \u2013 This card was received for flowers sent by the Centre to Ms. Campeau upon her retirement.<\/p>\n<p>CHAIRPERSON\u2019S REPORT<br \/>\nMr. John R. Haslehurst \u2013 Ms. MacLennan announced the death of the former Executive Director of The Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph Health Centre of Cornwall, John Haslehurst, on 20 November 2015.  A donation has been made in his memory on behalf of our Board and Staff to the Alzheimer Society.<\/p>\n<p>Lights of Hope 2015 Campaign \u2013 Ms. MacLennan invited all Board Members to respond to the campaign letter which was mailed to them, and reminded all that the Lighting Ceremony will take place on December 8th at 1330 hours in Jeanne Mance Hall.<\/p>\n<p>CORPORATE SISTER LIAISON\u2019S REPORT<br \/>\nBishop &#8212; Bishop Marcel Damphousse of Alexandria-Cornwall Diocese has been appointed the new bishop of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie, effective in the New Year.  There is no word on his successor.<\/p>\n<p>REPORT FROM ADMINISTRATION \u2013 Mrs. Ruest\u2019s report included Flu Vaccination, Good News Item (Inter-generational endeavour with St. Anne Catholic School \u2013 Junior and Senior Kindergarten class visits) and Census data.  Also discussed were:<\/p>\n<p>Fire Emergency Exercise \u2013 A mock fire emergency exercise was carried out at the Centre on November 20th.  This is a requirement of the Ontario Fire Marshall, must be approved by the local Chief Fire Official, and must reflect a situation in which there would be minimum staffing in the building.  Our scenario was a fire in a patient room on Macdonell House, Complex Continuing Care Level 1, at 0200 hours.  The time taken to evacuate everyone from the unit to a point of safety was just under 15 minutes \u2013 well under the calculated maximum evacuation time for the unit of 105 minutes.  We were very grateful to have the oversight of the Cornwall Fire Department for this exercise and the participation of nursing students and instructors from St. Lawrence College as both \u201cpatients\u201d and observers.<\/p>\n<p>Smoke-free Ontario Act \u2013 Effective 01 January 2016, this legislation will require that a designated smoking area on the hospital property be provided.  There are presently two smoking areas on the property:  one at the front and one at the back of the property.  We are presently compliant with the Act, except for some signage which we will provide.<\/p>\n<p>Multigenerational Programme \u2013 Two visits by the young students from St. Anne Catholic School have been made to our Centre so far.  The children have been well received and both students and residents are enjoying this interaction programme.<\/p>\n<p>QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (QI) \/ SAFETY COMMITTEE<br \/>\nHealth and Safety Review \u2013 The Third Party Health and Safety Review has been completed and the results were very favourable at 87 percent.<\/p>\n<p>SJCCC Dashboard \u2013 Mrs. Ruest presented an instructional video to the Committee of the Centre\u2019s new dashboard.  The dashboard is an in-house computer programme that will improve communication and resident\/patient services.<\/p>\n<p>Committee Membership \u2013 Dr. M.D. Cox was appointed to the QI\/Safety Committee by the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING, FINANCE AND PERSONNEL RELATIONS COMMITTEE (CPFPRC)<br \/>\nManagement Fiduciary Statement \u2013 The Management Fiduciary Statement for the month of October 2015 was approved by the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>Parking Lot at 27 York Street \u2013 This project was completed on 20 November 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Financial Statements \u2013 Mr. Desnoyers reviewed the statements. He noted that a payment on the debenture in October resulted in a reduced cash position.  There were no other major variances for the month and the Centre remained on budget.  There were improvements in sick time.  The Financial Statements for the period ended 31 October 2015 were approved by the Board as presented.<\/p>\n<p>AUXILIARY REPORT<br \/>\nSnowflake Bazaar \u2013 Ms. Payette reminded all of the upcoming Bazaar on December 3rd.<\/p>\n<p>PROFESSIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE (PAC)<br \/>\nElectronic Medical Records (EMRs) \u2013 There was an informative presentation by Mr. Soares of Information Technology to the PAC.  EMRs will be implemented across the Province in the near future.  The PAC requested that this item be incorporated in the Capital Budget submission for 2016-17.<\/p>\n<p>Retirement of Dr. Raymond Gatien \u2013 Dr. Gatien has indicated that he will cease taking on new patients as of 01 December 2015 and will retire on 01 January 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gilles Laferriere \u2013 Dr. Laferriere has applied for Medical Stall privileges.  His application is complete.
