In times of epidemic…

  • While visitation remains in effect, we encourage families to avoid non-essential visits during outbreak periods. Visitors must wear a mask on an assigned unit and wear appropriate personal protective equipment, as indicated, outside of designated rooms.
  • Social isolation is a major concern and is having a very negative impact on your loved ones. Every effort is being made to maintain normalcy while ensuring the safety of your loved one. Group activities will be adjusted in the event of an outbreak and restricted based on individual cases.
  • Hand hygiene is the most important measure we can all take! It protects our residents/patients, staff, and visitors and stops the spread. Please be sure to wash your hands upon arrival, departure, before sharing a meal, and after contact with a resident/patient.
  • Staff diligently monitor residents/patients for respiratory symptoms to take precautions as soon as symptoms appear.

Covid-19 and Respiratory Viruses: Frequently Asked Questions

What precautions is St. Joseph’s Extended Care Center taking to protect my loved one?

  • Enhanced masking requirements began on November 7, 2023, to protect our staff and residents during peak respiratory virus season, including COVID-19.
  • All staff, students, and volunteers must wear masks in indoor residential areas.
  • Visitors are strongly recommended to wear a mask when visiting loved ones in indoor common areas. This would include all areas of the units and those in close proximity to any resident. Masks are not required in the private room of the resident you are visiting, nor when eating or drinking. Visitors are welcome and encouraged to participate in activities and/or enjoy a meal with their loved ones. Masks are strongly recommended in these instances, except when eating or drinking with the resident.

How can I get an update on my loved one?

Home discharges are still permitted. Therefore, the St. Joseph Extended Care Center can provide care for your loved one and place them in your care during the pandemic. Readmission to the Center will be prioritized through the Champlain LHIN once restrictions are lifted. For more information, please click HERE .

Learn more about Covid-19 and flu vaccines!

Vaccinations for influenza, RSV, Covid-19, and pneumococcal disease are strongly recommended for every resident, and we ask all residents, their families, and caregivers to consider getting vaccinated regularly.

You can get a Covid-19 vaccine every 6 months, the flu vaccine once a year, RSV, and the new single-dose pneumococcal vaccine.

You can receive the flu, Covid-19, RSV, and pneumococcal vaccines at the same time if they are all available at the same time/place.
